The Irish Branch of the Institute of Acoustics invites you to a one-hour online talk by Dr Fiona Crichton.

The global growth of wind energy has been accompanied by claims that wind turbine infrasound causes health problems. In this talk, Dr Fiona Crichton will provide the Institute of Acoustics with a full and detailed account of her study, presenting the methods,

findings, and observations derived from her experimental work. She will explain how health complaints are more plausibly explained by the nocebo effect, where negative expectations influence symptom reporting, and will discuss supporting experimental,

epidemiological, and social evidence showing how expectations, media coverage, and community discourse can shape reported health effects independently of actual exposure.

The talk will run for approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session, providing Institute of Acoustics members with the opportunity to discuss Dr Crichton’s findings.
