A government consultation is open seeking views on changes to guidance, public sector services, and secondary legislation.
The consultation aims to streamline infrastructure consenting for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in England and Wales.
The consultation seeks views on removing statutory pre-application requirements for onshore wind projects.
The removal of requirements is under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 guidance.
This approach intends to treat onshore wind projects the same way as other development proposals.
The IOA Renewable Energy Advisory Group will draft a response to the onshore wind question.
Input is sought from members on other aspects of the consultation.

A government consultation is now open seeking views on changes to guidance, public sector services and secondary legislation to streamline infrastructure consenting for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) in England and Wales. It also seeks views on the removal of statutory pre-application requirements for onshore wind projects under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 guidance. This approach intends to ensure that onshore wind projects are treated in the same way as other development proposals, including types of energy infrastructure, and ensure smaller projects do not face more prescriptive requirements with regards to community engagement than the largest projects of national significance.
