Professor David Waddington Appointed as New President of the Institute of Acoustics

The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor David Waddington as its new President.

Professor Waddington, a distinguished academic from the University of Salford and Director of the Acoustics Research Centre, brings a wealth of experience and vision to the role. His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the IOA as it continues to advance the science and practice of acoustics in the UK and beyond.

 

In his acceptance speech, Professor Waddington outlined his vision for the future of the IOA, emphasizing the importance of integrating research, industry, and policy to address the acoustic challenges of our time. He highlighted several key objectives for his tenure:

 

1. Strengthening the connection between academic research and industry practice

 

2. Focusing on sustainability in acoustics, particularly in collaboration with the building and construction industries

 

3. Overseeing the integration of the UK Acoustics Network (UKAN+) into the IOA structure

 

Outgoing President Alistair Somerville expressed his confidence in Professor Waddington's leadership, stating, "I would like to thank David for his support and the lead role he has taken in promoting the Institute of Acoustics in academia.
