The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero state that the aim of this technical guidance is to provide advice to local authorities on appraising planning applications for onshore wind.
The IOA welcomes a review of this guidance.

An IOA response to the Government consultation on updating guidance on the assessment and rating of onshore wind turbines - ETSU-R-97 - has been subitted. Members with expertise in the assessment of noise and vibration from wind farm projects, and policy development were consulted through a meeting and questionnaire. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero state that the aim of this technical guidance is to provide advice to local authorities on appraising planning applications for onshore wind; aid the deployment of suitable wind developments and ensure noise is robustly controlled. Over the years working practice has evolved, coupled with the increased height of modern turbines. The IOA therefore welcomes a review of this guidance, and looks forward to working with the Government to ensure the supporting IOA good practice guidance reflects any policy changes that are adopted.
