Permitted development - non domestic onshore wind turbines

Members of the Renewable Energy Advisory Group have submitted a response for the IOA to the Defra consultation on permitted development for non domestic wind turbines. In responding support is given to the proposal, as the inclusion of a single wind turbine for non-domestic premises under the permitted development regime appears to be a pragmatic extension of the current for domestic dwellings. This support comes with the caveat that rules must be carefully constructed to ensure that the MCS scheme can be applied to control the potential for noise impacts, particularly to neighbouring noise sensitive dwellings, and manage the potential for cumulative impacts. It should also be weighed up in the decision to extend PDR to non-domestic premises that there may be potential for these to compromise much larger wind farm schemes in the vicinity. Our response did not support the deployment of larger turbines, or multiple turbines on a site as these may increase noise levels.
